#Echinacea #Colds&Flu's #Winter
Echinacea is a herb that you can use during the winter months to help boost your immune system's ability to help fight infections contributing to a quicker time of convalescence. It may also help to reduce the number of time you have a cold or flu throughout the winter months if you are using it regularly.
Echinacea should ideally be a blend of E. angustifolia and E. purpurea with a blend of the flower tops and the root. If it is a good quality Echinacea it should have enough alkylamides present that your tongue tingles.
You will need:
x1 flask
hot water
Blackcurrant syrup to taste
5-10ml of Echinacea
Combine and enjoy! The amount of Echinacea in this drink is within the recommended daily dose.
If you are using a smaller heat proof drink bottle or cup then you may like to use less echinacea.
Some considerations:
Because of Echinacea's effect on the immune system caution is put forward to those with auto immune disease - you may find that too much echinacea will cause a flare.
Do not use Echinacea if you are allergic to the Asteraceae plant family.
Excessive doses can cause nausea and mouth irritation
May interact with immunosuppressant medications, corticosteroids, blood thinners and hepatotoxic drugs.
